"Spoiled 2025": Netflix's biggest marketing failure yet

Image
Exactly one month ago, on Christmas 2025, Netflix released a commercial called "Spoiled 2025." It was aired on live television during an NFL game. Right off the bat the ad states, "Netflix is making room for 2026 by spoiling 2025", then proceeds to montage the VERY ANTICIPATED endings to every single popular series on the app. While it does give you a warning, there's no way to skip a live broadcast. I would consider this ad a major marketing failure, due to the backlash it faced. Youve been warned...  When I think about current marketing trends, I do understand that shock value is huge. In a fast paced, short form, digitalized world, we see it everywhere. Our attention spans are worn thin, and companies are doing whatever they can to keep us watching. I think TV shows/series are the one form of media we have left that people have the patience for, and Netflix severely underestimated that. Can I sit through an entire movie without checking my phone? Rarely. On ...

Deliver The Rainbow ft. Elijah Wood

On February 8th, 2026, Skittles and partner company Go Puff  dropped an advertisement for their super bowl ad campaign called "Deliver the Rainbow". The ad features Elijah Wood, who you might know from Lord of the Rings , The Hobbit , and more recently series like Yellowjackets , and I Love La. To summarize, the ad depicts a highschooler blowing a magical horn and summoning a three-legged mythical creature that brings her skittles. He then prompts you to order some skittles with Go Puff, a speedy delivery service. Here's the sign-up link--  Skittles Deliver the Rainbow Contest   Three main take aways~ People want instant gratification/quick delivery  Using a celebrity popular in current memes makes your ad 10x funnier This is an un-skippable ad      The value proposition communi...

About me >:)

Hi! My name is Zella Bayless, I'm a first-generation college student. Honestly, I'm a very down to earth, passionate, and charismatic person. I'm earning an AAOT (Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer) degree. This degree is super open ended because I'm still figuring out my path, but I know I love to learn. I've taken a particular interest in my business and social science courses, so this marketing class is just what I need. I love creating art and braiding hair, so I need to learn how to advertise my skills. I'm also just a curious consumer wanting to break the fourth wall of capitalism. On a more personal level, my favorite thing to do is go dancing, I'm super into the underground live music scene. I'm also obsessed with film, I spend countless hours watching movies, series, and short films. I'm into photography as well, I have a 2013 Nikon Coolpix that I love very deeply. As someone who journals a ton, I look forward to having a blog! Here's so...
